What is  MeraTerahRun?
MeraTerahRun (originally known as MeraTerahRRRun) was conceptualized as a running event with the primary objective of raising funds for a cause.

It is a 13 day staged endurance run that combines rail and road travel with 13 half marathons on 13 consecutive days in different towns and cities of India.

The 2014 event, covered  13 cities in 13 days  in 13 different states of India. Runners traveled from city to city by the Indian Railways. They helped raise Rs 15 lakhs for a pan Indian NGO.

Funds collected will be donated to which cause?
In the 2015 edition, the MeraTerahRun will raise funds for 3 NGOs. 

a) Rejuvenate India Movement, a Pan Indian NGO which also works in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Read more about RIM .

b) Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra, an NGO which works in  Chiplun,  Maharashtra. Read more about SNM.

c) Shaishav, in Gujarat works with children and youth, primarily from marginalised communities in Bhavnagar. Read more about Shaishav.

Runners will select a cause to raise funds and 100% of the funds raised will be transferred to the specified NGO.

Are my donations eligible for Income Tax exemption?
Yes, all funds donated to the selected NGOs, are eligible for tax exemption, under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

Will I get a receipt for donations?
Yes. you will receive an official receipt for your donation.

What percentage of my donation will go towards the event expenses such as tickets and accommodation for the runners?
This entire endurance event has been conceptualized, planned, scheduled and organized by ultra marathoners, runners, and volunteers who believe in the cause.

Hence the event expenses are either self-sponsored or sponsored by volunteers or running clubs which includes train tickets, accommodation, tee-shirts, water, food and all other organizational expenses.

I would also like to participate in the run and become a yatri. What is the process?
You are most welcome to join the efforts of the Yatris who have already pledged their support to the cause. Check out the Yatris page on our website and read the profiles of the  runners who will be running. There are many city-specific runners groups and individual runners who will be joining the Yatris in their city, see Schedule

Would I be able to join the Yatris for the entire duration of the 13 days?
This run was planned and scheduled at least 3 months in advance as the format necessitated booking of train tickets for every leg of the run. If you can manage to successfully book your train tickets now, you are more than welcome to join the run. Contact us for details if you are keen to participate.

What about accommodation arrangements during the event in case I wish to participate?
This entire endurance event has been conceptualized, planned, scheduled and organized by ultra marathoners, runners, and volunteers who believe in the cause.

Hence the event expenses are either self-sponsored or sponsored by volunteers which includes train tickets, accommodation, tee-shirts, bibs, and all other organizational expenses.

Hence if you wish to participate, we would have to request you to make your own accommodation and travel arrangements. Write to us at meraterahrrrun@gmail.com for the list of trains or hotels in case you are keen to participate.

I live abroad. Can I also participate in this run?
If you have prior experience of participating in ultra marathons or endurance events, you are most welcome to participate. For logistics management including travel, trains tickets and accommodation, please refer to the answers above.

We are a Runners Group and would like to join the Yatris when they hit our city. What do we need to do to participate and show our support?

The details of the city runs will be posted after the 18th of November, as and when each city route gets finalized.

Can we run with banners, enroll students from schools or other enthusiasts because we believe it will help raise awareness of the run and the cause when the yatris run in our city?
Most of the city runs are self organized runs, very much like training runs. There will be no traffic curbs. Runners are requested to take care of their own nutrition and hydration needs. The start time is an expected start time and is subject to the arrival of train into that city.

While running with a banner along the route with the yatris will definitely be helpful to raise awareness, it is an operational challenge . We would also like retain our event’s identity and maintain synergy of message, hence at this time we would not encourage running with banners.

If you or a group of you are willing to co-ordinate the run logistics, the aid stations, the traffic and other permissions and facilitate the on-road route management, you can help ”organize’ a run in your city during our visit.
